Bubba Gump Restaurants

Bubba GumpHello. My name's Forrest, Forrest Gump. People call me Forrest Gump. My momma always said, "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."'   Unintentionally we discovered the “Bubba Gump” restaurants, during our first visit of San Francisco. “A bench, shoes, a suitcase and a box of chocolates.  Hey, this looks like it’s from Forrest Gump.  Hey, it’s a restaurant.  Come, let’s have a bite”.  That’s how we got to know Bubba Gump.  Since this first visit, we’ve visit about 10 different locations.  We love the design of the restaurants, it’s so very much based on the movie.  All the restaurants have the same design and are all so different.  The food, especially the seafood, is so good.  Very good.  Mmmmm, we can’t wait the get another “Bucket full of sea trash”.

Some amusing facts:

  • When you need a waiter: put out the license plate STOP FORREST
  • Before you get any food or drinks, you need to do a trivia about the movie which is pretty tough
  • 1 = Shrimp’s ranking among the most eaten seafood in America

  • 5 Billion = Average amount of shrimp produced around the world each year
  • 1 Million Pounds of shrimp Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. sells each year
  • 19 Number of different ways shrimp is served at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Restaurants.
  • 50 Percentage in size of a shrimp’s head compared to its body

After the success of the movie “Forrest Gump”, Paramount Pictures approached Rusty Pelican Restaurants Inc. with their desire to open a casual family restaurant with a theme based on Forrest Gump’s life, philosophy and love of shrimp. Scott Barnett, then-president and CEO of Rusty Pelican Restaurants Inc., along with his executive team, created a concept that soon led to a signed agreement with Paramount Pictures for the first and only casual restaurant chain based on a motion picture property.

In 1996, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. opened its first restaurant on Cannery Row in Monterey, Calif., setting the fun and casual tone for Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. The restaurant was an instant success and things took off from there.
